How to make wines? This is not a tough procedure at all and you can simply make wines at home by following a few winemaking instructions. The Wine Making Process: A Glance
- The first step to winemaking is the preparation of the must. The Must is none other than unfermented grape juice and this is obtained by squeezing juice out of grapes through crushing or mashing.
- The second step involves Primary Fermentation. This is an entirely active process and the Must used in this procedure contain a lot of bubbles and yields a whole lot of carbon dioxide. The process of Primary Fermentation is started by adding yeast to the Must made from grapes or other fruits.
- After primary fermentation, the secondary fermentation process starts. This procedure is known to last from a couple of weeks to several months on the basis of the type of wine being used. During the secondary fermentation phase, the wine is kept in a special container to keep the air out. However, in this stage, the wine is covered with sediments.
- As soon as the fermentation of the wine is over and it is made clear, the yeast gets to settle at the bottom of the wine. Then the wine is shifted to another container and it is known as “racking the wine.” During the winemaking procedure, the wine may need to be racked several times to free it of sediments or impurities.
- In the final stage of winemaking, the wine is made to age and preserved in bottles.

How to improve the quality of your wine if it is not the excellent wine that you wanted to make? No worries, buddies, we have the solution for you. - If the wine prepared by you has developed hazes due to the presence of substances such as pectin, protein matters, metals or starch, it may be difficult for you to clear the wine. No need to fret over it, friends. Just by adopting a few steps, you can improve the condition of the wine. Bake a few shells of eggs till they become dry. Now, crush the shells and then put a spoonful of the substance into a galloon jar. Now by leaving the wine in this condition for a couple of weeks, you can make it thoroughly distinct and perfectly free from impurities.
- If the wine made by you is a resultant bland wine, then it is not likely to contain acid or tannin in appropriate amounts. However, the quality of this wine can be improved by adding a teaspoonful of black tea or lemon juice.
- If the wine prepared by you has stopped fermenting on a premature level, then it is very likely that the yeasts used in the fermentation process are lacking in victims that are essential for their growth and also for the fermentation to take place.
- If you observe that the wine prepared at home has completed fermentation and even after that it exhibits a highly sweet taste, then you can be sure that the wine has stopped to undergo fermentation even before the sugar available in the wine is changed into alcohol. One of the factors responsible for this may be that the wine was racked prematurely or to speak in plain words, the wine was racked even before it had stopped fermenting.
An appropriate solution for this is to place the wine back into the bucket and then let air into the wine by moving it energetically. Now, keep the wine in this condition for one or two days and you will find it tasting better.
